What is recruitment?

Recruitment, informally known as rush, is the process by which fraternities on campus introduce themselves to prospective members.  During this time, and throughout the semester, you will be invited to visit chapters to learn what each group has to offer.

What effect will being in a Greek Organization have on my grades?

The Miami Greek Community prides itself on high standards of academics. The All-Greek GPA is consistently higher than the All-Campus average.  Also, every chapter has a grade requirement level and opportunities for help when necessary.

Don’t Greek Organizations take up a lot of time?

Fraternity membership requires a certain time commitment based on the level of involvement you plan to have in the chapter.  Members will have many opportunities to participate in various activities through their membership.

What activities are Greeks involved in?

Fraternity members may participate in many activities on campus and in the community.  Members enjoy social functions, retreats, athletic competitions, service projects, and philanthropic events.  Each chapter differs, but the opportunities are endless.

What does it cost to be Greek?

Each fraternity chapter is self-supportive.  Each member is expected to pay dues every semester that are put towards association fees and various activities, but the actual amount is dependent on the chapter.  Most chapters will offer a payment plan for members when necessary.

Do all fraternities have chapter houses?

Most fraternities have chapter houses in close proximity to campus, but there are some who do not.  The houses may be owned by the fraternity’s national headquarters, alumni, or an independent landlord.

Don’t Greek Organizations haze?

Physical and mental hazing is prohibited by the University and the National Fraternal organizations, and is illegal in the state of Ohio.  Fortunately, chapter members recognize that hazing has no place in their organizations.
