Oxford Community

As one of the five pillars of the Greek Community, Service & Philanthropy plays a major role in the lives of Miami Greeks. Every year, the community donates countless hours and thousands of dollars to both local and national charities.

Philanthropy projects are events in which the Greek community or individual chapters devote their time and efforts to raise funds for a variety of worthwhile causes. Each chapter plans at least one major philanthropy project during the year, benefiting agencies such as the United Way, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the American Cancer Society. These chapter events raise money and awareness through athletic tournaments, dance competitions, or other creative activities.

Beyond the chapter events, every year the Panhellenic Association, Interfraternity Council, and National Pan-Hellenic Council coordinate several community wide projects. These events include Greek Spring Clean, Blood Drives, Carnivals and other opportunities that directly impact Oxford and the surrounding area. The largest of these events is Greek Spring Clean, a day in which the local community truly gets to see the power of the Greek community. Last year, over 500 Greeks participated in over 75 projects, from household work at elderly residents homes to cleaning the streets and parks of Oxford.  During the annual Greek Week Blood Drive, Greeks raise around 600-700 successful blood donations for our regional blood center.

These events allow Miami Greeks to truly engage our surrounding community, while at the same time fostering personal growth and unity among all members of the Greek community.

If you have any questions, or would like the assistance of the Greek community in any way, please feel free to contact our current Vice President of Service & Philanthropy, McLean Beto, at betomb@muohio.edu.
